Book Review ‼️ Heart of a Goon by Jacquel J

Heart of a Goon follows Gerald “Goon” Wraithe and Zoya “Ms. Lawyer” Caselli—two people shaped by vastly different upbringings and emotional landscapes.  Goon was raised by a single mother who, despite her struggles, surrounded her sons with love and protection. His love language is physical touch, a reflection of the warmth he grew up with. Zoya, on the other hand, was raised in a house where love vanished early—snatched away with the loss of her parents when she was just a child. What followed was a home filled with animosity, and a heart that never quite healed. Her oldest brother taught her how to attract the right attention and collect the accolades that came with it, but not how to feel safe in love.  This story centers on a woman whose default mode is self-sabotage. Zoya keeps her name detached from anyone’s—except her dog, her siblings, and her girlfriends. Those rare moments with her friends are the only glimpses of her capacity to love. When things get too personal, her lack of accountability is startling. And all Goon wants to do is love her.  Goon also carries family trauma, especially with a cousin who spirals after the devastating loss of her son. Grief has no timeline, but the way she entangles her relatives in her pain crosses a line.  At his core, Goon loves three things: his family (including Zoya, whom he’s already claimed by manifesting her future last name), his true friends, and those precious chocolate babies.

🔴 Red (Spicy) – Emotional Tension & Self-Sabotage

Her default mode is self-sabotage—she avoids attachment, accountability, and vulnerability.

Goon’s desire to love her clashes with her instinct to push people away.

🌸 Pink (Cute) – Love Language & Warmth
Goon was raised in a loving home by a single mother who protected her children from hardship.

His love language is physical touch, and he expresses affection openly.

His warmth contrasts Zoya’s emotional distance, creating a tender but complicated dynamic.

🟢 Green (Money Shot) – Family Trauma & Entanglements

The emotional and relational fallout adds complexity to Goon’s world.

Despite this, Goon remains loyal to his family, true friends, and the children he cherishes. Those surrounding him and his future kids.

🟡 Yellow (Knowledge) – Lessons in Love & Accountability
The story explores how grief, trauma, and emotional avoidance shape relationships.

It teaches that love requires accountability, and that healing demands both patience and presence.

Goon’s unwavering love becomes a quiet lesson in resilience.
